When to use this service vs ED
Use online consultation for: a child who is unwell but feeding, drinking, alert, and arousable, with normal breathing pattern. We can assess fevers, viral illnesses, ear pain, mild rashes, mild gastro, conjunctivitis, threadworms, head lice, and similar.
- A non-blanching rash (does not fade when pressed with a glass)
- Severe difficulty breathing, blue lips, grunting, or chest indrawing
- Unresponsive, floppy, or unusually drowsy
- Refusing all fluids and very dry / no wet nappies for >8 hours
- Seizure or fever in a baby under 3 months
What the consultation includes
- 15-minute video call with an Online Doctor experienced in paediatric assessment
- Visual assessment of the area of concern (rash, throat, eye)
- Prescription where clinically appropriate (e.g. antibiotics for confirmed strep / otitis media)
- Clear advice on red flags to watch for and when to escalate
