"24-hour doctor" in Dublin — what's actually available

Truly 24-hour, in-person medical care in Dublin runs through three channels:

  • 999 / 112 — for emergencies (chest pain, severe bleeding, loss of consciousness, suspected stroke).
  • Hospital Emergency Departments — open 24/7. The major Dublin EDs are Beaumont, Mater, St James's, Tallaght, Connolly, and St Vincent's.
  • D-Doc / Dublin Doctor on Call — out-of-hours physical co-op, d-doc.ie, 1850 22 44 77. Operates evenings, nights, weekends and bank holidays through clinics and home visits.
DoxOnCall is online-only and not a 24-hour service. We run 07:00–22:00 weekdays and 08:00–22:00 weekends. For care outside those hours, use the channels above.

What an online doctor in Dublin can help with — same day, evening included

Within our hours (which include most evenings, weekends and bank holidays), DoxOnCall handles the things that don't need a physical exam: sick certs, repeat prescriptions, UTIs, contraception, dermatology, child-health concerns, mental-health reviews, fit-to-work documentation. €34.99 flat, video or phone, usually within 1–3 hours of booking.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a true 24-hour online doctor in Ireland?
No service offers genuine 24/7 online doctor coverage in Ireland — clinical safety requires staffed cover with prescribing rights, and overnight demand is low. DoxOnCall covers 07:00–22:00 (08:00 on weekends). For overnight, use D-Doc or 999/112.
When should I use DoxOnCall vs D-Doc?
Use DoxOnCall for things that don't need a physical exam (sick certs, repeats, dermatology, mental-health reviews, UTIs) within our hours. Use D-Doc when you need a physical examination at out-of-hours, or when DoxOnCall is closed.
When should I go to the Emergency Department?
Severe chest pain, suspected stroke (FAST), heavy bleeding, breathing difficulty, severe injury, suspected fracture, or anything you genuinely think is life-threatening. For everything else, start with D-Doc or your usual treating doctor.
Can DoxOnCall give me a sick cert at 9 PM?
Yes — within our hours (until 22:00), sick certs are routine and same-day. Outside those hours, your employer will normally accept a backdated cert from us the following day, or one issued by D-Doc.
How much does DoxOnCall cost vs D-Doc?
DoxOnCall is €34.99 flat. D-Doc fees vary by appointment type and time — see d-doc.ie for current rates.
Is an online sick cert valid for an Illness Benefit (DSP) claim?
No. Online sick certs are valid for employers but they are not accepted by the Department of Social Protection for Illness Benefit (IB1) claims, which require an in-person examination. See the DSP guide.
