The doctor reviews your health history, current symptoms and medications, the nature of your trip (destination, duration, activities), and any specific wording the requesting organisation needs. Where travel is medically appropriate, you receive a signed certificate with a unique reference that can be verified online, emailed as a PDF — usually the same day.

Will insurers and cruise lines accept it?
Yes — it’s a signed medical certificate from a registered Irish doctor with a unique reference that the organisation can verify online. If the operator has its own form, have it ready during the consultation and the doctor can work to its requirements.
How fast will I have the certificate?
Usually the same day — the PDF is emailed shortly after your consultation once the doctor has completed the assessment.
Can I get one while pregnant?
Yes, where the pregnancy is uncomplicated and the trip is appropriate for your stage. Cruise lines in particular have strict cut-offs (often no travel from 24 weeks) — check your operator’s policy before the consultation.
What if I have a long-term condition like diabetes or heart disease?
A stable, well-managed condition is usually no barrier to travel — the certificate confirms exactly that, which is often what the insurer wants to see. Bring your medication list to the consultation.
What happens if the doctor finds I’m not fit to travel?
They’ll explain why, document it, and set out what needs to change — which can itself support an insurance claim for postponing the trip. A certificate is only signed when travel is genuinely safe.
