About DoxOnCall

8 questions

DoxOnCall is an Irish telemedicine platform operated by IE HEALTHNOW LIMITED (CRO 805729), registered in Ireland. We connect patients across Ireland with IMC-registered Irish online doctors via secure video consultation โ€” 7 days a week, including weekends and bank holidays.

Our registered online doctors can provide medical advice, issue sick certificates, renew prescriptions, write referral letters, and produce personalised management plans โ€” all from your home, at a flat fee of โ‚ฌ34.99 per consultation.

Yes. Every doctor on DoxOnCall is fully registered with the Irish Medical Council (IMC) and holds a current medical licence to practise in Ireland. All doctors operate in compliance with the IMC's Guide to Professional Conduct and Ethics.

You can verify any doctor's registration at imc.ie using their name or IMC registration number, which appears on every document they issue โ€” prescriptions, sick certs and referral letters.

Yes. DoxOnCall is operated by IE HEALTHNOW LIMITED, a company registered in Ireland (CRO 805729). Our service operates under Irish and EU law, including:

  • Irish Medical Council regulations โ€” all doctors hold current IMC registration
  • GDPR and Irish Data Protection legislation โ€” all patient data is handled securely
  • Irish employment law โ€” all sick certificates are legally compliant
  • HSE telemedicine standards โ€” consultations meet the same clinical standard as in-person care

Telemedicine consultations must meet the same standard of care as face-to-face appointments under Irish Medical Council guidance.

DoxOnCall offers a full range of online medical services, all at โ‚ฌ34.99 per consultation:

  • Urgent Doctor Consultation โ€” same-day assessment for any health concern
  • Child Care Consultation โ€” for children of all ages (parent/guardian must be present)
  • Sick Leave Certificate โ€” for employer sick leave and statutory sick pay
  • Same-Day Health Consultation โ€” general medical assessment
  • Dermatology & Skin Care โ€” skin condition assessment and treatment
  • Work & College Sick Note โ€” for employers and academic institutions
  • Prescription Renewal & Revision โ€” for a wide range of medications
  • Flu & COVID-19 Consultation โ€” assessment, antivirals and sick cert
  • Weight Loss Consultation โ€” medical weight management and BMI assessment
  • Diabetes Consultation โ€” Type 1, Type 2 and pre-diabetes management

DoxOnCall offers consultation availability 7 days a week, including Saturdays, Sundays and Irish bank holidays. Same-day appointment slots are available throughout the day.

For general email enquiries, our support team replies within 4 hours during operating hours. For urgent medical concerns outside consultation hours, please contact the HSE Out of Hours service (SouthDoc, NorthDoc, EastDoc or your regional equivalent) or call 999 / 112 in an emergency.

DoxOnCall is a private telehealth service โ€” not a substitute for your regular doctor. The key differences are:

  • No appointment wait โ€” same-day access, 7 days a week
  • Available on weekends and bank holidays when most surgeries are closed
  • Flat fee of โ‚ฌ34.99 โ€” no need for Medical Card authorisation for each visit
  • No travel required โ€” consult from home on any device

DoxOnCall is ideal for non-emergency conditions, prescription renewals, sick certs and situations where you cannot access your regular doctor promptly. For ongoing complex conditions, maintaining a relationship with a regular doctor is strongly recommended.

DoxOnCall does not replace your regular doctor โ€” it is a complementary service for when you need timely access to a registered online doctor.

Yes. We strongly recommend all patients maintain registration with a regular doctor for continuity of care, management of chronic conditions, access to Medical Card services, and physical examinations when needed.

DoxOnCall works best as a complement to your regular healthcare โ€” for situations where you need same-day access, weekend availability, or a specific service (like a prescription renewal or sick cert) when your regular doctor is unavailable.

DoxOnCall is available to patients who are physically located in the Republic of Ireland at the time of their consultation. Our registered online doctors can only treat patients in Ireland.

  • Adults (18 and over) โ€” book directly
  • Children (under 18) โ€” parent or legal guardian must book and be present
  • You do not need to be an Irish citizen โ€” you must simply be in Ireland at the time of the consultation
DoxOnCall cannot provide services to patients who are not located in the Republic of Ireland at the time of consultation.

Consultations

9 questions

Booking and attending your consultation takes just a few steps:

  • Book online โ€” select your service, choose a same-day slot and pay the โ‚ฌ34.99 flat fee. You'll receive a confirmation email immediately.
  • Join your consultation โ€” connect via secure video call at your booked time from any smartphone, tablet or computer.
  • Speak to your registered online doctor โ€” your doctor will take your history, assess your symptoms and advise on the appropriate course of treatment.
  • Receive your documents โ€” any prescription, sick cert, management plan or referral letter is sent to your email the same day.

A standard DoxOnCall consultation lasts approximately 15 to 20 minutes. This is sufficient for most common conditions, prescription renewals, sick cert requests and management plan discussions.

More complex consultations โ€” such as diabetes management or weight loss assessments โ€” may take slightly longer. Your doctor will take whatever time is needed to properly assess your situation. There is no extra charge for a longer consultation.

You need:

  • A smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer
  • A working camera and microphone (built-in on most devices)
  • A stable internet or mobile data connection
  • A quiet, private space where you can speak freely

Before your consultation, it is helpful to have a list of your current medications and allergies ready, and a note of your main symptoms and when they started. Have photo ID nearby in case your doctor needs to verify your identity.

If you experience a connection issue, DoxOnCall will reschedule or switch to a phone consultation at no extra charge.

Same-day appointments are available 7 days a week, including weekends and bank holidays. Most patients are seen within a few hours of booking โ€” often sooner depending on demand.

Booking takes less than 2 minutes. Simply select your service, choose an available slot and pay online. You'll receive your confirmation immediately.

Yes. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please contact us as soon as possible at support@doxoncall.ie or by phone on +353 89 946 1472.

If a technical issue on our side prevents your consultation from taking place, you will receive a full reschedule or refund. Our full cancellation and refund policy is outlined in our Terms of Service.

DoxOnCall's registered online doctors can assess and treat a wide range of common and recurring conditions, including:

  • Respiratory infections โ€” coughs, colds, sore throat, sinusitis, flu, COVID-19
  • Skin conditions โ€” rashes, acne, eczema, psoriasis, fungal infections
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs) and cystitis
  • Ear infections and ear pain
  • Hay fever and allergies
  • Digestive issues โ€” acid reflux, IBS, nausea, diarrhoea
  • Mental health concerns โ€” anxiety, stress, low mood (initial assessment)
  • Chronic condition management โ€” diabetes, blood pressure, thyroid, cholesterol
  • Contraception and women's health
  • Weight management and BMI assessment
  • Prescription renewals for stable, ongoing medications
If your condition requires a physical examination, blood test or imaging that cannot be done remotely, your doctor will explain your options and refer you to the appropriate service.

Some situations require in-person assessment and are not appropriate for DoxOnCall:

  • Medical emergencies โ€” chest pain, stroke symptoms, severe breathing difficulty, loss of consciousness
  • Serious injuries requiring examination or imaging
  • Conditions requiring a physical examination (e.g. abdominal examination, pelvic exam)
  • Psychiatric emergencies or active suicidal ideation
  • Antenatal care and pregnancy complications
  • Issuing of controlled drug prescriptions (e.g. opioids, benzodiazepines)
  • Social welfare illness benefit certification (requires in-person GP for MED2 form)
For emergencies, call 999 or 112 immediately. Do not use DoxOnCall for medical emergencies.

DoxOnCall can manage some non-pregnancy-related conditions in pregnant women. However, pregnancy affects many conditions and telemedicine is not well suited to safely diagnosing or treating pregnancy-related issues.

If you are pregnant, your registered online doctor will assess whether your concern can be safely addressed remotely. For antenatal care, pregnancy complications, reduced fetal movements or any bleeding, contact your maternity care provider or attend your maternity assessment unit directly.

DoxOnCall does not automatically share your consultation notes with your regular doctor. Your registered online doctor does not have access to your full medical history or your regular doctor's records.

It is good practice to inform your regular doctor of any medications prescribed or treatments received through DoxOnCall, particularly for ongoing conditions, to ensure continuity of care.

๐Ÿ’Š

Prescriptions

8 questions

Yes. DoxOnCall's IMC-registered online doctors can issue private prescriptions for a wide range of medications following a full clinical assessment. Prescriptions are issued electronically and sent directly to any pharmacy you choose across Ireland.

The pharmacy will dispense your medication as they would any private prescription. You pay the pharmacy directly for the medication at their private dispensing rate. Medical Card (GMS) prescriptions cannot be issued through DoxOnCall.

DoxOnCall's registered online doctors can prescribe a wide range of medications, including:

  • Antibiotics for common infections (UTIs, chest infections, skin infections, ear infections)
  • Antihistamines and hay fever treatment
  • Inhalers and asthma medications
  • Blood pressure medications
  • Cholesterol medications (statins)
  • Thyroid medications (e.g. Levothyroxine)
  • Oral contraceptive pill and contraception
  • Antidepressants (stable ongoing treatment review)
  • Diabetes medications (e.g. Metformin, oral agents)
  • Skin treatments (e.g. topical steroids, acne treatment)
  • Antiviral medications (e.g. for flu and COVID-19)
  • Acid reflux and digestive medications
Controlled drugs (opioids, benzodiazepines, certain sleeping tablets) and some other medications cannot be prescribed via telemedicine. Your doctor will advise if in-person assessment is needed.

Yes, for many stable ongoing medications. DoxOnCall's registered online doctors can renew prescriptions for patients who have a confirmed diagnosis and a stable management plan โ€” following clinical assessment during the video consultation.

To help your doctor assess your renewal request, it is useful to have:

  • The name, dosage and frequency of your current medication
  • The name of the doctor who originally prescribed it
  • Any recent blood test results or monitoring readings if relevant
  • A photo of your current medication packaging if available
Some medications require regular in-person monitoring and cannot be renewed remotely. Your doctor will advise if this applies to your prescription.

After your consultation, your registered online doctor sends your prescription electronically directly to your chosen pharmacy across Ireland โ€” including Boots, Lloyds Pharmacy, Hickey's, McCauley's and all independent pharmacies.

You will receive a notification when your prescription has been sent. Your medication is typically ready for collection within a short time. You pay the pharmacy directly for the medication at their private dispensing rate.

No. Controlled drugs โ€” including opioid painkillers, benzodiazepines (e.g. Valium, Xanax), certain sleeping tablets and other Schedule 1โ€“4 controlled substances โ€” cannot be prescribed via telemedicine in Ireland.

If you require a controlled drug prescription, you must attend your regular doctor or a specialist in person. DoxOnCall's registered online doctors can refer you to the appropriate service where needed.

No. DoxOnCall is a private service and our registered online doctors can only issue private prescriptions. Medical Card (GMS) prescriptions, Long Term Illness Scheme scripts and Health Amendment Act Card prescriptions cannot be issued through our platform.

If you hold a Medical Card and need a GMS prescription, you will need to contact your registered Medical Card doctor. DoxOnCall can still issue a private prescription for the same medication โ€” however, you will pay the full private dispensing cost at the pharmacy rather than the Medical Card charge.

Yes. DoxOnCall's registered online doctors can assess and prescribe the oral contraceptive pill and other contraception for appropriate candidates following a clinical assessment โ€” including blood pressure review and relevant medical history.

If you are starting contraception for the first time, a more detailed assessment may be required. Your doctor will advise on the most appropriate option for you.

The โ‚ฌ34.99 DoxOnCall consultation fee covers your video consultation and the issuing of your prescription. The cost of the medication itself is separate and paid directly to your chosen pharmacy at their private dispensing rate.

Private prescription medication costs vary by pharmacy and by medication. You can ask your pharmacy for a price estimate before collection. Some pharmacies offer generic alternatives at reduced cost โ€” ask your pharmacist when collecting.

Sick Certificates

8 questions

Yes. Sick certificates issued by DoxOnCall's IMC-registered doctors are legally valid and accepted by employers throughout Ireland. Each certificate includes:

  • The issuing doctor's full name and IMC registration number
  • The dates of certified illness
  • A general description of the patient's condition (without disclosing confidential details)
  • The doctor's digital signature

Since January 2023, the Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) scheme entitles all Irish employees to paid sick leave, supported by a valid medical certificate from an IMC-registered doctor โ€” which is exactly what DoxOnCall provides.

DoxOnCall can issue sick certs covering short-term absences from work or college, typically up to 5 days per online assessment. The exact duration is determined by your registered online doctor based on your symptoms and clinical assessment.

For absences longer than 5 days, or for ongoing illness requiring extended certification, your registered online doctor will advise on next steps, which may include attending in person for continued certification.

DoxOnCall sick certs are suitable for employer sick leave. They are not suitable for Department of Social Protection Illness Benefit (social welfare) purposes โ€” see the Social Welfare question below.

No. DoxOnCall does not backdate sick certificates. Our registered online doctors can only certify from the point of assessment forward. Backdating medical certificates is not ethical practice and is not permitted.

If you fell ill a few days ago and did not see a doctor at the time, your registered online doctor can assess your current condition and certify you from the current date where clinically appropriate.

This depends on the duration of your absence. For employer sick leave only (short-term absence from work), a DoxOnCall online sick cert is sufficient and legally valid.

For Department of Social Protection Illness Benefit (the social welfare payment for extended illness), the MED2 certificate must be issued by a doctor in person after physical assessment. This cannot be issued via telemedicine.

If you need to claim Illness Benefit from the Department of Social Protection for an extended absence, you must attend a doctor in person to obtain a MED2 certificate.

Yes. DoxOnCall sick certificates are accepted by colleges and universities across Ireland to explain absences from lectures, assessments, exams or coursework deadlines.

If you need a specific format for your college or university (for example, specifying an exam exemption request), please mention this during your consultation so your doctor can ensure the certificate meets the institution's requirements.

DoxOnCall's registered online doctors can issue a return-to-work statement for straightforward situations following recovery from a short-term illness assessed online.

Formal fit-to-work certificates that require a comprehensive physical evaluation โ€” for example, for safety-critical occupations, post-operative return, or long-term illness โ€” require an in-person medical examination and cannot be issued via telemedicine. Your doctor will advise if this applies to your situation.

DoxOnCall is not able to provide medical exemptions from Jury Duty. This requires a formal in-person medical evaluation. Please attend your regular doctor for this purpose.

If your registered online doctor issues a sick certificate during your consultation, it will be sent to your email address the same day โ€” typically within minutes of the consultation ending. The certificate arrives as a PDF and can be forwarded directly to your employer or college.

Medical Card & HSE

5 questions

Yes. Anyone can use DoxOnCall regardless of whether they hold a Medical Card or GP Visit Card. However, DoxOnCall is a private service. The โ‚ฌ34.99 consultation fee applies to everyone.

Medical Card (GMS) prescriptions cannot be issued via DoxOnCall โ€” only private prescriptions. This means you will pay the full pharmacy dispensing cost for any medication rather than the Medical Card prescription charge (currently โ‚ฌ1.50 per item, max โ‚ฌ15 per month).

DoxOnCall is particularly useful for Medical Card holders when their registered Medical Card doctor is unavailable, when they need same-day access on weekends or bank holidays, or for services not available through the GMS.

No. DoxOnCall is a private service and is not covered by the HSE GP Visit Card scheme. GP Visit Cards entitle you to free visits with your registered participating GP under the GMS scheme โ€” this does not extend to private telemedicine services.

The standard DoxOnCall fee of โ‚ฌ34.99 applies regardless of GP Visit Card status.

DoxOnCall is not covered by the HSE. It is a private service with a flat fee of โ‚ฌ34.99 per consultation.

Some private health insurance plans (such as those from Irish Life Health, Laya Healthcare or VHI) offer telehealth benefits that may allow partial reimbursement for private online consultations. Check your policy documentation or contact your insurer directly to confirm what telehealth services are covered under your plan.

No. DoxOnCall can only issue private prescriptions. Prescriptions under the Long Term Illness (LTI) Scheme, the Drug Payment Scheme (DPS) and the Health Amendment Act Card scheme must be issued by a doctor registered under those schemes โ€” typically your regular GMS doctor.

If you are on one of these schemes, DoxOnCall can still issue a private prescription for the same medication as a short-term bridge โ€” but you will pay full private cost at the pharmacy.

To register with a GMS (Medical Card) doctor, the HSE maintains a list of participating GPs. You can search at hse.ie. The GP you select must generally be within 7 miles of your home address.

For private patients, you can register with any GP practice that is accepting new patients โ€” contact practices in your area directly. Many practices have waiting lists, particularly in urban areas.

DoxOnCall can serve as a reliable supplement while you are awaiting GP registration or when your regular doctor is unavailable.

๐Ÿ”’

Privacy & Data

5 questions

Yes. The same doctor-patient confidentiality that applies to an in-person consultation applies to your DoxOnCall consultation. Your registered online doctor is bound by Irish Medical Council professional ethics and confidentiality obligations.

Your consultation is conducted over a secure, encrypted connection. No consultation content is shared with third parties without your consent, except in the limited circumstances required by law (e.g. a mandatory reporting obligation).

DoxOnCall handles all personal and health data in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Irish data protection legislation. Your data is:

  • Stored securely on encrypted servers
  • Used only for the purposes of providing your medical consultation and related services
  • Never sold or shared with advertisers or third-party marketing companies
  • Accessible to you on request under your GDPR right of access

Full details of how your data is collected, stored and used are set out in our Privacy Policy.

No. Your employer cannot access your consultation notes, diagnosis or medical history. A sick certificate issued by DoxOnCall confirms your period of illness and the general nature of your absence โ€” but it does not disclose confidential clinical details.

Your employer is legally entitled to request a sick certificate to confirm absence, but they are not entitled to access your medical records. This is protected under Irish data protection and employment law.

Yes. Under GDPR, you have the right to request erasure of your personal data. To make a deletion request, contact us at support@doxoncall.ie.

Please note that some data must be retained for legal and regulatory purposes โ€” for example, medical records must be kept for a minimum period under Irish medical regulations. Our team will advise on what can be deleted and what must be retained, and the timeframe for doing so.

Yes. DoxOnCall consultations cannot be provided anonymously. To issue a valid prescription, sick certificate or referral letter, your registered online doctor requires your correct name and relevant personal details.

Providing false information to a doctor is both unsafe and potentially unlawful. All information you provide is handled in strict confidence under GDPR and Irish medical ethics.

๐Ÿ’ณ

Billing & Payment

5 questions

Every DoxOnCall consultation costs โ‚ฌ34.99 โ€” one flat fee, regardless of service type or duration. This covers:

  • Your video consultation with a registered Irish online doctor
  • Any sick certificate issued during the consultation
  • Any prescription issued during the consultation
  • Any management plan or referral letter issued

There are no hidden charges, no call-out fees, no follow-up fees and no subscription required. The medication dispensed by your pharmacy is a separate cost paid to the pharmacy directly.

DoxOnCall accepts all major debit and credit cards including Visa, Mastercard and American Express. Payment is processed securely online at the time of booking. We do not accept cash, cheque or bank transfer.

If a technical issue on DoxOnCall's side prevents your consultation from taking place, you will receive a full refund or a complimentary rescheduled appointment at your preference.

If you miss your booked appointment without cancelling in advance, a refund may not be possible as the doctor's time has been reserved for you. To request a cancellation or refund, contact us at support@doxoncall.ie as soon as possible with your booking details. Full details are in our Terms of Service.

Yes. A booking confirmation and receipt is sent to your email immediately after payment. You can use this for expense claims, health insurance reimbursement requests or tax relief on medical expenses.

Medical expenses โ€” including private doctor consultation fees โ€” may qualify for tax relief in Ireland under the Revenue Med 1 (Health Expenses) scheme at your marginal rate of tax. See revenue.ie for details.

Some private health insurance plans offered by Irish insurers (VHI, Laya Healthcare, Irish Life Health) include cover for private GP consultations or telehealth services. Whether DoxOnCall consultations are claimable depends on your specific plan.

Contact your insurer directly with your DoxOnCall receipt to check if you can claim. For Revenue health expense tax relief, all private medical expenses โ€” including private GP consultations โ€” can be claimed back at 20% on your annual tax return.

๐Ÿ‘ถ

Children & Families

4 questions

Yes. DoxOnCall can see children of all ages. The following applies:

  • A parent or legal guardian must book the consultation on the child's behalf
  • The parent or guardian must be present for the entire consultation
  • The parent or guardian is responsible for providing the child's accurate medical history, current medications and allergy information
  • You cannot book a consultation for another adult โ€” they must have their own account

No. The HSE's free GP Visit Card for children under 8 applies only to GMS-registered GP practices. DoxOnCall is a private service โ€” the standard โ‚ฌ34.99 fee applies for all consultations, including children.

DoxOnCall can be a convenient option when your child's GP is unavailable on evenings, weekends or bank holidays, or when you need same-day access without a wait.

Yes. Following a child care consultation, DoxOnCall's registered online doctors can issue a medical note confirming the child's illness and period of absence, suitable for submission to schools in Ireland.

For adults, DoxOnCall consultations must be booked by the patient themselves, as each consultation is personal and confidential. Adults must have their own account.

However, if you are a legal guardian or have a formal Power of Attorney for a relative, please contact us at support@doxoncall.ie before booking so we can advise on the appropriate process for your situation.

๐Ÿ’ป

Technical & Access

5 questions

If your connection drops during a consultation, your doctor will attempt to reconnect or switch to a phone call to complete the assessment. If the consultation cannot proceed due to a technical issue, contact us at support@doxoncall.ie and we will arrange a complimentary rescheduled appointment.

Before your consultation, test your camera and microphone, ensure you have a stable connection, and choose a quiet, private space.

DoxOnCall video consultations work on all modern browsers and devices. For the best experience:

  • Browser: Google Chrome or Safari are recommended. Avoid Internet Explorer.
  • Device: Any smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop with a working camera and microphone
  • Connection: Wi-Fi or a strong 4G/5G mobile connection

No app download is required โ€” consultations run directly in your browser.

Booking takes less than 2 minutes:

  • Click "Book Now" on any page
  • Select your service (e.g. urgent consultation, sick cert, prescription renewal)
  • Choose an available time slot โ€” same-day slots are available 7 days a week
  • Complete payment of โ‚ฌ34.99 securely online
  • Receive your booking confirmation by email immediately
  • Join your consultation at the booked time via the link in your confirmation email

If you haven't received a booking confirmation or post-consultation documents:

  • Check your spam or junk folder โ€” automated emails sometimes land there
  • Ensure the email address you provided at booking is correct
  • Allow up to 30 minutes after the consultation for documents to arrive
  • If still not received, contact us at support@doxoncall.ie and we will resend your documents promptly

DoxOnCall is committed to accessible healthcare. If you have a hearing impairment, speech difficulty or any other accessibility requirement, please contact us at support@doxoncall.ie before booking and we will do our best to accommodate your needs โ€” including alternative consultation formats where possible.

Referrals & Letters

4 questions

Yes. Where clinically appropriate, DoxOnCall's registered online doctors can provide open referral letters to private or public consultants in the relevant specialty โ€” including:

  • Dermatology, cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology
  • Orthopaedics, neurology, ophthalmology
  • Weight management and bariatric services
  • Diabetes specialist and dietitian services

Referral letters will be emailed to you directly. You then contact the consultant's office to book your appointment. Note that consultant appointments are subject to waiting times and private fees apply.

Yes. Where clinically appropriate, DoxOnCall's registered online doctors can issue referral requests for:

  • Blood tests and routine bloods (HbA1c, cholesterol, thyroid, full blood count etc.)
  • X-rays, ultrasound, MRI and other imaging
  • Urine tests and other investigations

These referrals can be taken to a private laboratory or imaging centre. Your registered online doctor will specify the tests needed in your referral letter. The cost of the tests is separate and paid to the laboratory or radiology centre directly.

DoxOnCall's registered online doctors may be able to issue a fit-to-fly letter for straightforward cases following a clinical assessment โ€” for example, confirming fitness to fly after a recent illness or for a minor medical condition.

For complex medical conditions, recent surgery or conditions requiring detailed physical assessment, a fit-to-fly certificate should be obtained from your regular doctor in person. Check your airline's specific requirements before booking.

Yes. If your registered online doctor assesses that your condition requires emergency or urgent in-person assessment, they can provide an A&E referral letter to assist with your handover at the Emergency Department. This letter contains a summary of your current consultation to help ED staff treat you efficiently.

If you are experiencing a medical emergency โ€” chest pain, suspected stroke, severe breathing difficulty โ€” do not wait for a consultation. Call 999 or 112 immediately.
๐Ÿ”ฌ

Conditions & Limitations

5 questions

DoxOnCall's registered online doctors can provide an initial assessment for common mental health concerns such as anxiety, low mood and stress, and can discuss treatment options including medication where appropriate.

For crisis situations, active suicidal ideation or complex psychiatric conditions, in-person specialist support is essential. Please contact:

  • Samaritans: 116 123 (free, 24/7)
  • Pieta House: 1800 247 247 (free, 24/7)
  • Your nearest Emergency Department โ€” if you are in immediate danger
DoxOnCall is not an emergency mental health service. If you are in crisis, please contact Samaritans (116 123), Pieta House (1800 247 247) or call 999 immediately.

Yes, where clinically appropriate. DoxOnCall's registered online doctors follow Irish prescribing guidelines and can prescribe antibiotics for conditions where the clinical presentation supports this โ€” such as confirmed urinary tract infections, certain chest infections, ear infections and skin infections.

Antibiotics will not be prescribed unless clinically warranted. Responsible antibiotic prescribing is essential to prevent antimicrobial resistance, and DoxOnCall's doctors adhere strictly to this principle.

Yes. DoxOnCall's registered online doctors can assess COVID-19 symptoms, discuss antiviral treatment options (where clinically appropriate and within the treatment window), issue a sick certificate and provide a recovery management plan.

Antiviral medications for COVID-19 are most effective when taken within 72 hours of symptom onset โ€” book your consultation as soon as possible after a positive test if you are in a high-risk group.

DoxOnCall can assist with many aspects of chronic condition management โ€” including prescription renewals, management plan reviews, blood pressure monitoring guidance and diabetes management. However, DoxOnCall does not have access to your full medical history or long-term records.

For complex, long-term or evolving conditions, maintaining regular care with a doctor who holds your full medical history is strongly recommended. DoxOnCall works best as a supplement โ€” providing timely access when your regular doctor is unavailable.

DoxOnCall's registered online doctors can discuss weight loss medications as part of a full medical weight loss consultation. Eligibility for specific prescription weight loss medications depends on your BMI, medical history, current medications and overall clinical assessment.

GLP-1 receptor agonists such as Ozempic and Wegovy are subject to availability and strict prescribing criteria in Ireland. Your registered online doctor will discuss the most appropriate evidence-based options for your individual situation during your weight loss consultation.

A full medical weight loss consultation (โ‚ฌ34.99) is required before any prescription weight loss medication can be discussed. Prescription is not guaranteed and is subject to clinical assessment.
