When Should I Take My Child to A&E Instead?
DoxOnCall is suitable for non-emergency child health concerns. However, some symptoms require immediate in-person emergency care. Please call 999 or 112 or go to your nearest Emergency Department immediately if your child has:
- Difficulty breathing, rapid breathing or turning blue around the lips
- A non-blanching rash (does not fade when pressed with a glass)
- High fever in a baby under 3 months old (38°C or above)
- Seizure or febrile convulsion for the first time
- Severe dehydration — no wet nappies, sunken fontanelle, or dry mouth
- Loss of consciousness or unusual drowsiness or unresponsiveness
- Severe allergic reaction — swelling of the face, lips or throat
- Signs of meningitis — stiff neck, sensitivity to light, severe headache
